Change maps.

I'm working on making a small scale ORPG with xna and this map editor. I'm having small issue with figuring out how to change the maps after the player warps to a new map. Has anyone had any dealing with this?

I was thinking of checking a value in the update method or having a static variable accessible from my handling data class and my game screen. The data class would set/load the map and the game screen would draw it. Would that be a decent way of handling this?
